Course info and booking

Sourdough bread baking courses at The Brick House, Cheriton, in the South Downs. 

All our courses: 

  • You will learn baking skills in a domestic kitchen, understanding mixing, kneading and proving techniques through practical, hands on experience. 
  • Learn how to build and look after a sourdough starter and take away some of the South Downs Sourdough starter to use at home. 
  • We provide all equipment and supplies, including an apron. You only need to bring enthusiasm and questions, which we will answer through existing knowledge and practical learning. 
  • Courses run from 10.00am – 5.00pm.

Simply Sourdough

Our most popular course, suitable for bakers with some or no experience, or anyone wanting to learn a new skill.  

Prepare and bake a wholemeal wheat sourdough loaf and a 100% rye sourdough loaf and prepare a sourdough pizza dough to take home with you. 

We provide you with the skills to make your own delicious, nutritious sourdough bread at home. 

This course will get you started, or help you progress, by providing a reliable process, sound understanding and skills to produce consistently good results.

Low-G / G-Free Sourdough

A chance to learn about gluten free and sourdough baking with low gluten dough.

The day follows a similar structure to the Simply Sourdough course.

Additionally other starters and gluten free flour will be used. Please note, we will use gluten free ingredients, but as gluten is handled daily in the kitchen we cannot claim to be a gluten free environment.

The course is therefore more suitable for those with gluten intolerance, rather than Coeliac disease.

Bespoke

A variety of bespoke classes can be also be arranged to meet the precise needs of aspiring bakers.

These can include:

  • A sourdough clinic or follow-up to the one-day class to explore more advanced techniques or seasonal specialities.
  • A two-day course that allows additional time to cover the basics and more. This can be combined with a stay at The Brick House B&B, so you will enjoy your own bread at breakfast time.
  • Courses can be held in your own kitchen or suitable facility.
  • Team building classes where colleagues bake sourdough, learn new skills to support well-being and enjoy working together.
